No, you pervs- not THAT kind of "quickie!"
I'm talking about art. Fast art. Art that's just a sketch, with no planning or foresight- just a doodle, mainly.
Was doing some drawing with Trevor last night, and he asked me for a quick sketch of some of the characters from The Gilded Shackle. Usually I put up this kind of stuff on the site I have for my game world art and trivia, Atheneum Adventures but I thought this would be kind of fun to put up here, too.
This took me about a half hour. The cute little guy on the pony is Marne, the tall Human boy is Teine (he's the main character), the big dog is "Stinky", the "horse-lizard-dog-critter-thing" is Willis, and the girl is Leis. Go me! :D

"Unstoppable"- It didn't suck!
So, I went to go see Unstoppable with friends, while it was still in the theater. Surprisingly, it was pretty good! I was skeptical... I mean, it's a train. It's on a TRACK. It's not like there's a lot of ways it can go. But it managed to be entertaining, suspenseful, and have some pretty likable characters.
Next? Hopefully either "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" or "Tangled"!

Trying a New Dog Food- Blue Buffalo
Rhett and I enjoying the nice fall weather during a trip to Holmes Lake, in Lincoln. |
They've been advertising it all over cable TV and it looks REALLY good... very healthy, with human food-grade ingredients. I got it home and opened up the bag, and Rhett came running over and immediately SAT DOWN! That's what he does when someone has a treat he REALLY wants! Encouraged, I mixed it half-and half with his old food and fed it to him dry...and the big goofball immediately went through and picked out all the new stuff to scarf down, and left his old food in the bowl!
Aside from being cost-prohibitively expensive, it might be a good fit. We'll give it a try and see if he continues to be so enthusiastic about it.

Considering Contagion
I'm thinking about getting an artist/author booth at Contagion: Outbreak for 2011. This is one of the area's pop culture/sci-fi/gaming conventions, and should be a lot of fun... whether or not I participate or just go for fun.
Gonna check out the planning meeting next Friday on the 10th at Borders on 72nd and Dodge and see what I think.

Character Portrait- Kurzak, for Joel
This is Kurzak, a character from the Friday night D&D game I'm playing in. Kurzak is a half ork-half dragon, built on the Pathfinder system. I had a lot of fun with this one... it was hard!

The Ghost Rider
My spirit walks these lonesome valleys
and dusty plains
Where once thrived a town
Longing for the days of life,
with my six-shooter and flesh horse
Beneath me.
There's a story in the graveyard,
a song sweet, yet sad told in
Furtive whispers from beyond.
For now, the dead mutter the unspoken
regrets of life.
But for me, a wanderer in both life
and death,
There are no regrets, for the wind
is now my mount,
And the lightning my gun!

Interesting week, hot weather, catching up...
Yep, I've been getting caught up on The Gilded Shackle updates. You'd think since I'm just reformatting stuff from the old WordPress site and moving it over, I'd be able to get it done on time! If only it were that easy, eh? Anyway, I got the last couple ones that I "owed" up, and am set up for the next week! Yay!
On a related note, I'm working on art as I can, too, and have a pile of things to ink and hopefully scan and get up where they belong. This week should be a busy one, with doc appts, a market research study, and other stuff. Hopefully I can get the horses trimmed, too! I'm trying to run down our farrier and get that on the schedule.
This hot weather is dreadful. I went to walk Rhett at 7 this evening, and when I opened the door he balked and looked up at me like "Do I HAVE to?"

Inked Celtic Animals
Here's the inked version of what I was working on earlier. They turned out great! Tomorrow I'm going to take it to Kinko's and scan them on a scanner big enough.

Rough Draft Art!
Here are some pencil roughs for a project I'm working on. I'm designing this art to customize a jean jacket for a girl I know, and it's turning out SO cool! There's a good chance I'll be doing something else with this, perhaps some t-shirts or something.
It's kind of fun to have something to put up and show off! I'll be doing this more often, now that I have access to a scanner. Speaking of which, when I get the final work done, I'll have to go to Kinko's or somewhere where there is a scanner big enough to take the whole piece!
Thanks for looking!

Art vs. Artist
Here's a short animation I got a real kick of. My sister sent it to me. Thanks, Beck! :D

Happy 4th of July!
Ok, so I'm a bit early... I needed an excuse to write something on this so I could see how the blogging template would look with a post on it. So far, so good.
In a bit, I'll be done tinkering around with all this stuff, and on my way to a friend's place for the big 4th of July celebration. They have a great view for the fireworks show at Rosenblatt- and this year is the last one ever.
Hoping everyone has a happy and safe holiday weekend!
